Itinerary / Route

ALGECIRAS/ASILAH

Meet up during the afternoon in Algeciras, Southern Spain. There will be a welcome meeting where you will have an opportunity to ask questions, socialize with other guests and receive your ferry tickets. Later that day, we will make our way across the Strait of Gibraltar to start your African adventure. After only 90 minutes, we’ll arrive in the Moroccan port of Tanger Med, to spend the night before heading down the coast to Asilah (40 miles), a colonial town built by the Portuguese in the 15th century.

Included: Tour of Asilah medina and group meal.

RABAT

Travel further down the coast to visit the Imperial capital of Morocco (100 miles). Spend a few hours strolling around the 14th century medina, a bit of window shopping and enjoy a delicious local lunch. The walled old town of Rabat centers on the Old Market, a souk with narrow alleys of shops selling ceramics, spices, and jewelry. Later, discover the Kasbah of the Udayas. This Berber-era royal fort is surrounded by formal French-designed gardens and overlooks the Atlantic Ocean.

Included: Excursion by train to Rabat and group meal.

L’OUALIDIA

Travel on to Oualidia (200 miles). Oualidia is a quiet and relaxed place, ideal for resting for a couple of days after the hustle and bustle of visiting one of Morocco’s largest cities. It’s a small coastal town located on the Atlantic coast, approximately halfway between Casablanca and Safi. It is known for its beautiful saltwater lagoon, which is a major tourist destination in Morocco. The lagoon is a haven for marine life and is a popular spot for fishing, surfing and kayaking. In addition to the lagoon, L’Oualidia has some beautiful beaches, where you can relax and enjoy the sun and sea. There are also plenty of restaurants offering delicious local food, especially fresh seafood.

Included: Boat trip on the lagoon and group meals.

MARRAKECH

Head inland to Marrakech (125 miles), a vibrant cultural center and renowned tourist capital. After arriving at our campsite, we will have the opportunity to relax and enjoy the pool area before heading into the city centre the next morning. Nestled within the intricate streets of Marrakech old town is its famous square, the Jemaa el Fna, which has been declared a World Heritage site by UNESCO. Here, jugglers, snake charmers, magicians, and acrobats come together to delight visitors. Marrakech’ s maze of narrow streets are lined with colorful textiles, clothing, pottery, ceramics and jewelry. Marrakech is an experience!

The following day, it’s time to experience authentic Morocco in a nomad tent. We will be picked up from our campsite and taken by 4×4 for our night in the desert. Choose if you want to take a camel ride through the dunes or simply relax in the camp to watch the sunset.

Later, gather around the campfire for a delicious Moroccan dinner consisting of salads, tagines, couscous with vegetables and dessert. Enjoy a traditional show of belly dancing, fire-eating and music, then settle into your cozy tent, admire the beauty of the stars above before drifting off to sleep in the serene surroundings of the desert.

Included: Horse & Carriage Guided tour of Marrakesh plus travel to the desert by 4×4, one night in a nomad tent, camel ride and group meals.

OUZOUD

Travel 100 miles through the picturesque landscape of the Moroccan countryside. As you leave behind the bustling city of Marrakech, you’ll be enchanted by the ever-changing scenery, from fertile valleys to quaint Berber villages dotted along the route. We will spend two nights exploring this beautiful part of Morocco. Explore the stunning Ouzoud waterfalls, take a boat ride, hike on the scenic trails, and encounter playful Macaque monkeys. Indulge in a delicious traditional lunch at one of the local restaurants overlooking the falls.

Included: Excursion to the Cascades d’Ouzoud, boat ride and group meal.

AIT BENHADDOU

Travel south from Ouzoud through the Tizi n’Tichka pass to Ait Benhaddou (160 miles). Ait Benhaddou is a 17th century village in the High Atlas Mountains. It is a World Heritage site and has been since 1987. Ait Benhaddou, understandably, has formed the backdrop to many films over the years. Consequently, there are several posters and reference points throughout the village listing the various movies which have been filmed here. These include Lawrence of Arabia, The Jewel of the Nile, The Mummy, Gladiator and Game of Thrones. We will also visit Atlas Studios, the world’s largest film studio.

Included: Excursion to Atlas Studios and group meals.

ANTI-ATLAS MOUNTAINS

Head further south into the Atlas mountains, passing through Taroudant, the “Grandmother of Marrakech” before arriving at Tafraoute (200 miles). Nestled in the gorgeous Ameln Valley, the village of Tafraoute is surrounded on all sides by red-granite mountains. It is a pleasant and relaxed base for exploring the region and will be our home for the next 4 nights. We will wildcamp’ amongst palm trees, spend evenings around the campfire plus head into the mountains by 4×4 to visit a traditional Berber home and eat lunch with the family.

Included: Excursion by 4×4 to Gorge Ait Mansour & traditional Berber home and group meals.

AGADIR

We will leave the mountains and head back towards the coast, staying just north of Agadir (60 miles), a resort destination, it’s known for its golf courses, wide crescent beach and seaside promenade lined with cafes, restaurants and bars. The city of Agadir is worth visiting to see the largest souk in Morocco and the beautiful recreation of the ancient medina after it was destroyed by an earthquake in the 1960’s.

Included: Excursion to La Medina D’Agadir and group meals.

ESSAOUIRA

Making our way back north, we stop at Essaouira (100 miles), Ranked as the most beautiful cities in Morocco by Unesco. It is one of those coastal cities where the unique atmosphere and water activities seamlessly blend. Walk the ramparts, the very ones of Astapor, the red city of the “Game of Thrones” series. In the centre of the city, the medina invites you to wander its winding alleyways. The town has, over decades, become a favoured destination for rock legends seeking a break from their relentless schedules. Names like The Rolling Stones, Jimi Hendrix, and Jim Morrison have all enjoyed the sun and sand here.

Included: Excursion to the Medina of Essaouira and group meals.

L’OUALIDIA

Back at L’Oualidia to rest for the night on our journey north. A chance to chill, walk along the breathtaking beaches and take in a bit of nature.

Included: Optional Quadbike ride through the dunes and group meal.

MOHAMMEDIA

As we head back towards the ferry, we’ll stop of at the Atlantic beach resort of Mohammedia. The city was known until the 1960s as Fedala, Following the achievement of Moroccan independence in 1960, the city was renamed in honour of King Mohammed V, and today Mohammedia is a major industrial and port hub as well as being a summer beach destination, with golf courses and tennis courts, cafés and restaurants, hotels, villas and apartments. Take the opportunity to relax in the campsite or take a short taxi ride into town, to follow your nose exploring old mansions and historic sites such as the Kasbah, built by Sultan Sidi Mohamed Ben Abdellah in 1773, or the White Mosque, also dating from the eighteenth century, or indeed the Medina itself.

Included: Group meal.

CHEFCHAOUEN

We’ll make our way north east to our last stopover, just outside Chefchaouen, the ‘Blue Pearl’ of Morocco. As our last campsite, I’ve chosen Camping Eco-centre Bellota. Here we can sit back, relax and take in the wonderful views of the surrounding Rif mountains. The restaurant has great fresh, local produce. The artisanal boutique will not fail to surprise you and is the perfect opportunity to pick up any last gifts or souvenirs.

Included: Organic group meal, with soup, salad & tagine.

VISIT CHEFCHAOUEN AND CROSS BACK TO SPAIN

After a delicious, traditional Moroccan breakfast, we’ll make our way towards Chefchaouen. “The Blue Pearl’ is a city in the Rif Mountains of northwest Morocco. It’s known for the striking, blue-washed buildings of its old town. There are many different theories to why Chefchaouen is so blue. The most popular theory is that it was painted blue by the Jews who fled to Chefchaouen to escape the Spanish Inquisition in the 15th century. Leather and weaving workshops line its steep cobbled lanes. In the shady main square of Place Outa el Hammam is the red-walled Kasbah, a 15th-century fortress and dungeon. Here, we will spend a few hours wandering though the old medina plus enjoy a 3 course meal before heading to Tanger Med, to catch our late afternoon ferry back to Spain.

Included: Three course group meal facing the Kasbah.
